Hackney Road’s Macsmith speakeasy has been transformed into your new favourite whisky hideout.
A much-loved East London cocktail haunt for over a decade, The Natural Philosopher has been taken over by the team behind The Absinthe Parlour at The Last Tuesday Society and Devil’s Botany Distillery — and they’re throwing a party to celebrate.
Expect all the fun of a late-night neighbourhood bar with a nod to their Brooklyn roots, but in a hidden and completely unexpected East London setting. Whisky takes centre stage with approachable pours, playful flights, and a cocktail menu that invites you to explore.
And because one celebration isn’t enough, the night also marks the launch of Batch #2 of Devil’s Botany Bourbon Barrel-Aged Absinthe — a bold, barrel-aged release made for whisky lovers, absinthe aficionados, and anyone who enjoys discovering something new.

DEVIL’S BOTANY BOURBON BARREL-AGED ABSINTHE
Unleash your curiosity for the world of absinthe. The Bourbon Barrel Aged Absinthe is part of a series of limited releases from Devil’s Botany that experiments with different flavour pairings and production methods within the absinthe category.
A devilish blend of aromatic botanicals — including Green Anise, Fennel Seed, Grand Wormwood, Southernwood, Blackberry Leaf & Devil's Claw Root — is enlivened with the notes of toasted oak, vanilla and toffee from the ex-Bourbon barrel. Completely natural in colour and flavour, Devil's Botany Bourbon Barrel-Aged Absinthe is perfectly served over ice to release the essential oils held within the spirit.
