Janet Robinson Tyler is coming home, and she is bringing jazz with her.A Marysville native now based in Las Vegas, Janet will join the Nate McClendon Quartet for an evening of jazz at the Lee Dam Center for Fine Art. The quartet includes Nate McClendon on saxophone, Wayne Goins on guitar, Michael T. Brown on bass and Robert Rodriguez on drums. Together, they bring the kind of musicianship that makes live jazz especially worth hearing in person.
Music has always been part of Janet’s story — from piano lessons with Evelyn Falen and school music in Marysville to a long career in music and education. This return to Marysville brings that story full circle.
Janet’s connection to music started at home. Her parents filled the house with music — big band, country, polka and pop — and that influence has stayed with her. She still sings to her mother, Norma, every day, and this visit will include celebrating Norma’s 95th birthday. There will be birthday cake, and there will even be a polka worked into the program for her.
This is a chance to hear a hometown musician back, joined by a strong jazz quartet and surrounded by family, friends and the community that shaped her.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
