Come join the Friends of Alum Creek to hear a presentation on freshwater mussels by Dr. Michael Hoggarth, Professor at Otterbein University (retired). Mussels are important indicators of the health of Alum Creek.Description: Given the proximity of Alum Creek to The Ohio State University and its near 60 years of mussel research begun by Dr. David Stansbery, we have the ability to assess the mussel resources through time and allow these fascinating animals to describe the quality of their home. That home is defined by water quality, habitat quality, and since they depend on other aquatic animals to house their parasitic larvae, the diversity of these animals as well.
