Internationally acclaimed Salentino band Kalàscima and Italian-Canadian alternative folk performer Andrea Ramolo come together to bring the music, dance, and culture of the Salento to Canada, as shown in their award-winning documentary, “The South.” Join us for an evening of music and dancing, where you’ll learn the ‘pizzica’, a popular ancestral dance from the region of Puglia, and hear about the ancient instruments of Southern Italy.

Kalàscima featuring Andrea Ramolo is an exciting international collaboration of world music in the Italian language featuring internationally renowned southern Italian electronic/folk band Kalàscima and multiple Canadian Folk Music Award-nominee and alternative songwriter Andrea Ramolo. The musical collaboration and studio album “The South” served as the soundtrack for Ramolo’s award-winning music documentary by the same name starring the band. Last summer, the collaboration headlined venues including Vancouver Folk Music Festival, Calgary Folk Festival, Northern Lights Festival, Harbourfront Centre in Toronto, and Ness Creek Music Festival. Their collaboration was created with the intention of introducing audiences to the ancestral and folk music of southern Italy...but with a twist. Kalàscima blends Italian hip-hop, folk, traditional, Balkan, and other Mediterranean sounds with electronic music. With Andrea's soulful voice and connection to the traditional music and dance of southern Italy, this project promises to get crowds moving and dancing in a Mediterranean-style trance. Goat-skin hand drums, Italian bagpipes, accordion, Bouzouki, baritone sax, multiple harmonies, drums, synth, and electronic sounds as well as the soul and passion of southern Italy are returning to Canada this summer!
