The Monday Night Chamber Music Society presents ViolaMania 6

The Monday Night Chamber Music Society is proud to be performing their 2025-26 concert series at Berkeley’s lovely Hillside Club, following over 20 years as “Classical at the Freight”. Violist and conductor Ben Simon will be your host for six outstanding evenings of chamber music this season, featuring Ben’s friends and colleagues from the San Francisco Chamber Orchestra and beyond. By far the friendliest musical evenings in town!

Our big season kickoff will be, to no surprise of our Classical at the Freight fans, ViolaMania 6, that once-every-couple-of-years celebration of all things viola. Featuring many of the Bay Area’s top practitioners of the alto clef, revel in the flexibility, beauty, and sheer virtuosity of this best of all possible musical instruments. From classical to jazz, bluegrass to klezmer, this concert will also feature recent winners of the Northern California Viola Society’s Concerto Competition.

Calling all violists!!! Bring your viola for $1 off admission and join us as we try, for the sixth time, to break the Guinness Book of World Records mark for the most violists playing, in unison, Telemann’s Viola Concerto. And come early for our viola community sight reading ensemble from 6 – 7. Make new friends, learn new viola pieces, and celebrate that unique viola sound.
