To celebrate New York Fashion Week, creator of KidSuper, Colm Dillane discusses straddling the line between streetwear and wearable art.
About this Event

To mark New York Fashion Week, Colm Dillane joins Rizzoli Bookstore for a conversation about creativity, curiosity, and the making of KidSuper.

Dillane will discuss his newly released book, an illustrated autobiography that traces his path from a dorm room at NYU to one of fashion’s most unexpected and expansive creative practices. Less a traditional memoir than a visual notebook, the book moves through clothing, painting, performance, and collaboration, capturing the spirit of a designer who has never been interested in staying in one lane. Dillane will be in conversation with Josh Baer, followed by a book signing.

PLEASE NOTE: RSVPs are encouraged but not required. Seating is limited and will be first come, first served. Doors open at 5:30 pm.

Can't attend? (please specify that you would like it signed in the comments box at checkout).

Born and raised in Manhattan, Dillane founded KidSuper as a way to hold everything he makes under one roof. What began as graphic T-shirts sold to friends quickly grew into a Brooklyn-based studio where fashion exists alongside paintings, films, music, and live performances. The clothes reflect that mindset. Bold, tactile, and playful, they sit somewhere between streetwear and wearable art, driven by emotion rather than trend.

Collaboration has always been central to Dillane’s practice. His runway shows feel closer to cultural gatherings than traditional fashion presentations, often featuring artists, athletes, and performers from across disciplines, from Action Bronson to Tyra Banks to Ronaldinho to Vincent Cassel. Each show builds a world, soundtracked and staged with the same care as the clothes themselves.

That open, multidisciplinary approach has brought Dillane recognition well beyond New York. In 2023, he was invited to guest design the Louis Vuitton Homme Collection, a rare moment that underscored his position as a true outsider operating at the highest level. The book brings together the artwork, graphics, and ideas behind those moments, offering a glimpse into the restless energy and joy that sit at the center of KidSuper.

More than a retrospective, the conversation at Rizzoli is an invitation into Dillane’s way of thinking: playful, sincere, and rooted in the belief that creativity works best when it stays open.

Colm Dillane’s path to fashion wasn’t linear - and that’s part of what makes it so compelling. Before launching KidSuper, he played professional football, made short films, recorded music, and painted. The label grew out of that same restless energy: a natural extension of a creative practice that never fit neatly into a single box. What began as a way to screenprint T-shirts for friends has evolved into a platform that bridges fashion, art, and storytelling—with a healthy dose of humor along the way.

In 2020, after two rejections, Dillane finally made it onto the official Paris Fashion Week calendar - not with a traditional runway, but with a claymation film that felt more like a wildly imaginative experiment than a debut. It was strange, funny, and surprisingly moving, and the industry took notice. A year later, Dillane became the first American to win the LVMH Karl Lagerfeld Prize, an acknowledgment not just of talent but of vision.

KidSuper is part clothing label, part art project, part social experiment. And Dillane is its magnetic center. Born in New York to an Irish fisherman and a Spanish painter, he grew up between cultures and disciplines, absorbing as much from the classroom as from the soccer field or his mother’s studio. That duality - playful yet precise, scrappy but soulful - is baked into everything he touches.

Calling KidSuper’s collections “collections” doesn’t quite capture what Dillane puts on a runway. Each season feels more like an open letter - sometimes to New York, sometimes to his friends, always to the chaotic, endearing parts of being alive. In an industry that often prizes polish and distance, he leans into vulnerability, humor, and a kind of joyful disorder. His shows land somewhere between performance and provocation: part theater, part reflection. They’ve become a fixture on the Paris Fashion Week schedule not for chasing the moment, but for offering something entirely of their own.
