✨ The Mesmerist
In 2020, Rufus Hound learnt of the death of his estranged grandfather. What followed was a five-year journey of discovery that now takes centre stage in this headline production of Watford Palace Theatre’s spring season.
Rufus uncovered a remarkable family secret: his grandfather had been a magician, performing under the stage name The Mesmerist.
Among the belongings he inherited were old boxes filled with illusions, journals and props from his grandfather’s final magic show, a performance staged in its entirety only once before, at Watford Palace Theatre in 1983.
Intrigued. Fascinated. Out of work during lockdown and searching for purpose, Rufus decided to learn the show.
This is that show...
A labour of rediscovery and reinvention, The Mesmerist is born from legacy and resurrected from a forgotten past, blending theatre, storytelling and real magic into an unforgettable live experience.
Prepare for mystery, illusion and theatrical wonder as multi-talented actor, comedian and presenter Rufus Hound (One Man, Two Guvnors, National Theatre; A Christmas Carol: A Ghost Story, Birmingham Rep) takes centre stage.
Directed by Steve Marmion in his first production as CEO & Director of Programming at Watford Palace Theatre.
