Amber Freeman, Visitor Services Manager for SNHA, takes audiences on a detective story that began with an old painting of an unfamiliar riverboat. Her curiosity led to a deep dive into the history of The Mary, a little-known ferry that once crossed the Susquehanna. Before bridges spanned the river, ferries were vital to transportation for more than a century. They linked communities, economies, and cultures on both sides. In this presentation, Freeman shares her research journey from the painting’s discovery to uncovering the story of The Mary, the people who used it, and the river that inspired it all.
Each lecture lasts about an hour, including time for audience questions.
