A live stake is a living stem cut from a tree or shrub. For many wetland plants, stem cuttings will grow new roots when planted, soon developing into mature and independent organisms. Live stakes are an accessible and renewable resource for healing degraded streams. By restoring vegetation to these sensitive areas of land, we can enrich native habitat and biodiversity, mitigate soil erosion, and prevent physical and chemical pollutants from entering the water. Discover the partnership between the LSRA and Horn Farm, working together to protect our watershed.
Join this workshop to learn how you can help conserve our watershed by using what the land provides. From harvesting to planting, we'll dig into the science and ecology of live stakes and their use in ecosystem restoration. This workshop will include a visit to habitat suitable for stem propagation, where we'll meet some plants used in live staking and demonstrate the process of planting live stakes. Live native stakes available for purchase after presentation.
Join us for an evening of informative content, fellowship, food and drinks!
