About this Event
Saint John Paul II is known for having coined the term "New Evangelization" during one of his visits to Haiti, where he called not for a re-evangelization America, but for a New Evangelization, "new in its ardor, methods and expression."
But did you know that this New Evangelization was already applied in the 1500s by Spanish missionaries in La Florida? There, Franciscan missionaries brought the Christian faith to Native cultures, who embraced it as the fulfillment of their beliefs and died trying to defend it from Protestant invaders.
Join us for a conversation with Dr. Mary Soha, vice-postulator for the Canonization Cause of the Florida Martyrs, as she discusses the New Evangelization in the context of Native American communities and the lessons that we can take for the New Evangelization today.
