About this Event
Bette and Boo begin their marriage with starry-eyed dreams of a big, happy family. But reality quickly unravels in this wickedly funny, darkly absurd comedy. After the birth of their son Matt, a string of stillborn babies follows, sending Bette into heartbreak and Boo toward the bottle. Their eccentric families only add to the chaos: a gibberish-speaking father, a sadistic tyrant, an anxiety-ridden sister, and a priest who communicates by impersonating frying bacon.
Narrated by their grown son, this semi-autobiographical play careens through three decades of divorce, alcoholism, madness, and illness. With razor-sharp wit and surprising tenderness, Durang finds hilarity and compassion in the pain of dysfunctional family life.
