The Mark Buckingham Big Band presents: "The Herd is Back! Musing with Woody Herman" at Jazz Café POSK!
After showcasing the works of Count Basie and Thad Jones, the Mark Buckingham Big Band returns to Hammersmith with "The Herd is Back! Musing with Woody Herman", an electrifying celebration of the many decades spun by Woody Herman and the many incarnations of his band, the Herd.
Featuring a wonderful line up with Gabriel Garrick (Trumpet), Aaron Liddard (Tenor Saxophone), Nick Mills (Trombone) and Mark Buckingham endorsing the Maestro's role on Clarinet, the band will play some of the early classics (Early Autumn, Four Brothers, Woodchoppers Ball), some of the 60-70s repertoire (My Favourite Things, What Are You Doing for the Rest of Your Life, John Brown's Other Body, Alone Again) and a few obscure gems!
The Mark Buckingham Big Band was created during the UK lockdown period. Professional musicians were allowed to perform, rehearse, and stream, so Mark took advantage of this ruling to get players who were just sitting at home watching television or delivering groceries to get them playing again. Since the band has appeared in many London venues including the Bull's Head in Barnes, the Hampton Hub, the Spice of Life in Soho, and the Jazz Café POSK. With a cast of fantastic jazz musicians and an enormous library, the band has been able to recreate ambitious works of many great Big Bands of the past, from Basie to Maynard, Duke Ellington to Kenton and Woody Herman to Thad Jones.
