The March Violets are an English post-punk/gothic rock band formed in Leeds in 1981, known for their echo-drenched guitars, drum machine rhythms and dual male-female vocals that echo the early Leeds scene alongside their friends in The Sisters of Mercy who also released their music at the time.
They scored seven UK Indie Chart hits in the 1980s, including Snake Dance and Walk Into the Sun, and their single Turn to the Sky was featured in the film Some Kind of Wonderful before their 1987 split. Founding guitarist Tom Ashton later played live with Sisters of Mercy and toured with Clan of Xymox, linking them directly to the broader goth/post-punk network. Reuniting in 2010, they’ve released new albums, toured widely and remain influential in goth circles.
