The Manchester Ball is an independent fundraising dinner dance, generously supported by local business, industry, and the professional community. We pride ourselves on hosting a professional, yet relaxed evening, whilst raising awareness and funds for our chosen charity, and bringing you the best entertainment in the country for a fantastic evening.
In 2022 we will be celebrating the 33rd Manchester Ball, during which time, we have raised over £674,000 for local charities.
In 2021, we raised an astonishing £72,636 for both the Manchester Youth Zone and HideOut Youth Zones, enabling them to continue the fabulous work they have been doing during these incredibly difficult past few years, when demand for support has been so great. Thank you for your phenomenal support!
We are continuing our support of these two fantastic charities. Based within Manchester wards that have a deprivation rate of over 40%, are vital for the communities they support: providing both a universal offering to young people and targeted programmes. Both centres see over 1,000 visits by young people aged 8-19 (up to 25 with additional needs) each week.
Both the Manchester and Hideout Youth Zones work hard to raise the aspirations of young people, empowering them to enjoy healthier lifestyles and refuting the concept that where you come from dictates where you are going in life!
The Youth Zone’s offer extensive programme’s including sports, arts, life skills and training all of which have the aim of:
· Building the confidence of Young People
· Supporting them to achieve their goals and ambitions
· Building resilient, determined, and creative adults
Offering a safe space that is open when schools are shut, where young people will always have someone who has their back.
Manchester Youth Zone has now been open ten years and engaged with and supported thousands of children and families in that time. HideOut Youth Zone, are now entering their third year in operation, having opened during the pandemic they have since engaged over 4,600 members.
Both Youth Zones are places where young people can grow and develop; they make friends, find a listening ear, and create a support network. New experiences are offered, horizons broadened, expectations stretched, and aspirations raised, all motivating and empowering young people to forge a better future and achieve their full potential.

Key HideOut Youth Zone Statistics:
· Over 4,600 members
· 90% of our members live in the 20% most deprived areas of the UK
· 42.99% of our members are female, 57.41% of our members are male
· 1,000 average visits per week
· 450 hot meals are provided per week
· 19% of our active members have a disability or an additional need
· 70% of our members identify as black, Asian or minority ethnic groups
Donations from The Manchester Ball 2022 will help fund projects such as “Junior Choices” at Manchester Youth Zone.
Junior Choices is a ten-week preventative programme, designed to target young people vulnerable to child exploitation. The aim of the programme is to instil confidence and self-worth in these young people to build their resilience - using positive role models, sports, arts, and adventurous activities.
Shaun, aged 12, explains the impact of taking part in the MYZ Junior Choices programme:

After joining the MYZ at 8 years old I was referred to the Junior Choices programme because in school I was on the verge of getting excluded. I was hanging around with groups of 26 people between the ages of 16 and 20. My life was difficult because sometimes they would force me to do things and if you say no, they might threaten you or they might threaten your mum.

I was in school and then sometimes I'll get frustrated when teachers asked me to do things. I was a bit defiant and then I used to get cheeky and rude, but 12 months on, and I’ve won the award for the most improved student because I turned my behaviour around.

Junior Choices has developed me as a person because I could trust my mentor Danny and I have more role models. My best experience of Junior Choices was when we were walking up this six-mile mountain. We had to walk with bags on our backs and people were tired and we didn’t experience that before, so I knew I had to step in and help them.

The things I got from it were leadership skills, making new friends and helping out others. The Junior Choices programme is fun, enjoyable, and changed my life because now I'm a normal 12-year-old boy doing normal things.”

The Manchester Ball supports projects such as Junior Choices and the core offer of both Youth Zones year on year allowing them to continue their vital work, 7 days a week, with the young people of Manchester.
We all want the very best for young people in our city. Together, we can help our Youth Zones raise the aspirations of a generation by providing them with somewhere safe and inspiring to go, as well as boundless opportunities which will empower them to grow in confidence, build better relationships and lead happier, healthier lives.
We hope you can come along and support two fantastic charities at this year’s Manchester Ball. They are achieving vital results for all of us in Manchester.
