About this Event
“This book keeps my grandmother’s recipes alive,” says Ranie Saidi about his brand new book The Malay Cook, which he'll be sharing more about when he joins us on the 3rd Floor at our Piccadilly home for our Kitchen Stories series.
Ranie Saidi, aka The Malay Cook, is a London-based recipe developer, writer, and supper club host celebrating Malaysian Malay cuisine. Inspired by dishes his grandmother cooked, he adapts traditional flavours for modern audiences. A Yan Kit So finalist, he sells Malay sauces, hosts popular supper clubs, and contributes recipes to major publications.
The Malay Cook is Ranie Saidi’s tribute to his grandmother, Che Aminah, a renowned Malay village cook whose dishes he learned as a child. After her recipe book was stolen, he rebuilt her flavours from memory, a grieving process that led to supper clubs, sauces, and now his debut cookbook. Featuring 70+ recipes - many vegetarian - it celebrates everyday Malay cooking, coconut-rich Lemak Manis, and long-overlooked traditional dishes.
