In this monthly gathering, participants will work together to create both individual and collaborative pieces while developing a true community within the studio. Projects will focus on freedom of choice, expressing your inner voice, and recognizing the many unique strengths of ourselves and each other.
We meet up on the 4th Sunday of every month (4/26, 5/24, 6/28). Ready to see what’s in store?
April 26: Expressive Painting with Scissors
Participants will practice expressive painting, using color mixtures of their choosing to paint intuitive and dynamic pieces while listening to a selection of musical genres. We will then pass our papers around the table and draw organic shapes on the backs of the painted pieces, which we will then use to collage new pieces out of! Shapes will be placed in the middle of the table, potluck-style, to encourage a sense of community. Pieces can be traded as desired once completed!
May 24: Collaborative Recycled Material Self-Portraits
Participants will each create a cardboard self-portrait, using shapes that we all freeform draw together and place in a buffet style in the middle of the table. After we make our portraits, we will pass them around and have a stranger make the frame for us.
June 28: Artist Trading Cards
The class will start with a full deck of cards that we will hand out to all participants to paint, draw, embroider, collage, or otherwise decorate. After decorating a few of their cards, participants will be encouraged to get up and take a look around at each other’s cards, trading and collaborating with each other’s pieces. By the end of the session, participants will have a collection of cards created by themselves and new friends.
