About this Event
Many of us are holding onto multiple pairs of old jeans that we no longer wear and yet feel reluctant to donate or otherwise let go of. The magic of upcycling can transform them into exciting “new” expressions.
In this workshop we will learn the basic techniques of dismantling denim and then making it into one or more (time permitting) of the following items: placemats, tote or cross-body bags. All tools and additional materials are included in the workshop fee.
Prerequisites:
- Basic sewing experience is a plus, however is not required.
- New sewers are welcome, however will only have the option of making placemats.
Participants MUST bring:
- 3-4 pairs of old jeans (if bringing children’s jeans bring 4-5 pairs)
- Your own snacks and bag lunch. There is a nearby cafe if needed.
Overview:
- Introductions and sharing what brought us here
- My textile upcycling journey, examples and Q&A
- Learn to dismantle jeans
- Choose a project
- Complete the project
- Total time: 4-5 hours
