About this Event
Join us for the inaugural London Fashion Lecture at London College of Fashion, UAL. For our first in this series, we welcome Foday Dumbuya; Founder and Creative Director of LABRUM London.
In May 2023 LABRUM was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Award for British Design and is a part of the NEWGEN initiative for 2023- 2024. LABRUM regularly shows at London Fashion Week, with the February 2024 show being held at Tate Britain.
Foday Dumbuya was born in Freetown, Sierra Leone, and grew up in both Cyprus and London. He graduated from Nottingham Trent University, then went on to work for DKNY and Nike before launching LABRUM in 2014. After a time at LCF and further mastering pattern cutting he embarked on an exploratory journey into craft methods, such as heritage techniques.
Foday’s ambition for LABRUM is to push a narrative of Black joy to the forefront of the media and the public eye, and as such his focus is predominantly on Black history of both London and West Africa. He is driven to change the perception of Black culture and to emphasise the amazing people who have contributed to creating the world we live in.
Stories bring us together, and Foday’s vision for LABRUM is to be the vehicle to bring these stories to life.
Please note, this event is for LCF staff and students only and ID cards will be required on entry.
