About this Event

In this series, we invite contemporaries, collaborators and friends of Lucille and Fred Clifton to return to the home. Through fireside chats, writers and artists will share their anecdotes, connections to and memories of the Clifton home in Windsor Hills. Before losing their West Baltimore home in 1980, the Cliftons created a vibrant community opening the house not only to neighbors, but activists, artists, poets and writers who were impacted by camaraderie and intellectual influence.

Our first guest is the poet Afaa M. Weaver who met Lucille Clifton in 1974, after which he became one of her mentees. Weaver acknowledges Lucille Clifton as one of his writing influences and has written poems dedicated to her including “Lucille Clifton, Legends” and “An Elegy for Lucille Clifton.” In this special conversation, he will be joined by Joël Díaz for “Reflection on the light that came from Lucille.”

Event begins: 6:00PM

A Note on Parking:

The Clifton House is located in a close-knit residential community, thus street parking is very limited. As we practice being good neighbors, we recommend planning your travel to The Clifton House via ride shares, carpools, or public transit to preserve the limited street parking for local residents. You may also consider parking on Clifton Road (runs parallel to Talbot Road) and walking up the street to The Clifton House.
