"The Life of AFJ" is a wild, unfiltered journey through the mind of Abel Flores Jr., where mental health, conspiracy theories, and raw humor collide. Using his bipolar diagnosis as both a lens and a launchpad, Abel takes the audience on a rollercoaster ride of manic highs, dark lows, and a quest for truth—whether it’s found in therapy, JFK, or gay frogs. It's a one-man show that blends personal turmoil with social commentary, delivering a performance that’s equal parts chaotic, hilarious, and deeply introspective.
There exists a beautiful vulnerability to this work, as the character AFJ, created by Artstillery founding member Abel Flores Jr. found himself at the intersection of art and mental health. As a performing artist, Abel turned to what he knew, and embarked on the journey of creating the alter ego political persona, AFJ.
The totality of Artstillery's original works focus on the truth of the human experience. “At its core, “The Life of AFJ” portrays the vulnerable process of creating art from a coping and healing perspective. I portray myself at the beginning of the show, then morph into AFJ to ridicule choosing one person to lead a whole country and the imaginary intimacy they convey to people of all backgrounds and beliefs. No one is safe from his opinions but they can hide while he goes off on a strange tangent.” - Abel Flores Jr.
“The Life of AFJ” is written and performed by Abel Flores Jr., directed by Hilly Holsonback, Audio & Sound by Tyler Haws, Video & Lighting by Chanlyr Jordan with guest Ely Sellers as the Secret Service Agent. Performance runs approximately 50 minutes with no intermission.
