SICCDA (South Inner City Community Development Association) and the Robert Emmet Community Development Project are delighted to announce the appointment of Michael McDermott as the new Director of the Festival. The festival which is one of the oldest community festivals in the country dating back to its modest beginnings in 1970 will take place from July 22 to 28 with a programme announcement towards the end of June.
Commenting on his appointment McDermott, a former editor of Totally Dublin and publisher of Le Cool Dublin said, “I am thrilled to assume this role and work with such a vibrant community in a historically and socially rich area of the city. Being a custodian of such a cherished festival brings great responsibilities and opportunities to reflect the heritage and dynamism of The Liberties and its people.”
Austin Campbell, CEO of SICCDA & RECDP added, “We’re very happy to have found someone with Michael’s experience and dynamism to re-establish The Liberties Festival - one of Dublin’s oldest festivals - as a key date in everyone’s summer calendar.”
Michael’s appointment comes at a particularly important juncture for both organisations, and for the wider Liberties community, as RECDP & SICCDA expect to have completed a voluntary merger process and to relaunch as The Liberties Community Project during this year's festival.
The Liberties Festival is proudly supported by Dublin City Council Diageo and a number of local community stakeholders.
