On November 10, 1975, the Edmund Fitzgerald sank on Lake Superior, taking 29 crew members with her and becoming the most storied shipwreck in Great Lakes history. Just days before the 50th anniversary on Friday, November 7,
Stevens Point musician and Superior native John Harry will commemorate the tragedy with a special tribute concert at Guu’s on Main.
The evening will feature multiple performances of Gordon Lightfoot’s classic The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald, along with other Lightfoot hits, seafaring and swashbuckling tunes,
and a few surprises—including original songs.
Both a celebration of music and a remembrance of history, the concert promises an evening of powerful storytelling through song.
To support the cause, Guu’s will be serving
Great Lakes Brewing Company’s Edmund Fitzgerald Porter,
with one dollar from every pint—as well as all performance tips—donated to Friends of the Fitz, an effort based in Superior, Wisconsin
to erect a historical marker on the shore where
the Edmund Fitzgerald began its final voyage.
This one-night-only event brings together
John Harry’s hometown roots and personal ties to Superior,
offering audiences a chance to lift a pint, sing along,
and honor the enduring legacy of the Edmund Fitzgerald.
