Out bodies are not meant to be treated or fixed; they are meant to be communicated with.Touch is the most basic form of communication, and talking body-to-body is something we have nearly lost.
Touch has become medicalized, professionalized, and sexualized.
In many ways, we have lost our ability to be bodies communicating to bodies, and therefore to really be human.
We have developed a culture where the person performing touch is assumed to do something to their clients, the client is not asked to be involved, responsible, and active as they would be in a conversation.*
As a result we loose something that is basic to being human.
The first day of this workshop will guide you in how to shift your attention from your mind to your body, and from there to feel and sense someone else’s unique form.
The second day will bring you one step further: it will teach you to communicate with another body. You will learn to ask someone to let go of this contraction, pay attention to this area, breathe right here— so that the person can gain back power and responsibility where before they felt powerless or numb.
*for those who are in a sub-culture that welcomes touch, you can also notice that here it is often done without attention, responsiveness, and frequently from a place that is based on ideas and principles rather than communication. I can highly encourage you to attend even if you feel “comfortable” with touch, the material will be very rich for you still.
