ABOUT THE ENSEMBLE
The Lake Effect Winds is a wind quintet from Central New York that has existed for over 25 years. The quintet enjoys finding and performing unique arrangements and original quintet compositions of both a serious and light-hearted nature for trio, quartet, and quintet. Instruments featured are flute, oboe, clarinet, French horn, and bassoon.

She studied with James Papoutsakis at the New England Conservatory of Music and John Oberbrunner in Syracuse. Beth is a registered Suzuki teacher in both flute and violin, with an active private studio near Manlius.

Kathryn Dimmel, oboe, earned a Music Education degree with a concentration in performance (Crane School of Music, SUNY Potsdam) and a Master’s in Music Education (Ithaca College). She studied with Patricia Sharpe, Dr. Glen Guiles and Jared Hauser. Tom McKay, clarinet, has played saxophone and clarinet with jazz groups (including the Bear Cat Jass Band, the Central New York Jazz Orchestra, and Gap Mangione’s Big Band), orchestras (including the Syracuse Symphony and Symphoria) and many chamber ensembles. He is a professor emeritus of philosophy, retired from Syracuse University. He was named as CMM’s performer of the year in 2012.

Audrey Turner, French horn, earned a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education and French horn performance from Ithaca College and a Master’s degree in Music Performance from Ohio University. She taught instrumental music in the Fulton City schools, Liverpool Central School District, and Marcellus Central Schools.
