ABOUT THE ARTIST
With the sole purpose of promoting the art of the classic guitar and its rich history, John has set out to perform for a diverse audience in a wide range of settings. From the classroom to the concert stage, he has shared his love of music inspiring both young and old alike.
His eclectic repertoire includes an assortment of solo guitar works from the Renaissance to the present day. A large portion of his music focuses on Spanish & Latin American Guitar Masterpieces. His repertoire consists of original works composed for guitar as well as transcriptions from many musical sources.
He has performed at local schools, colleges, libraries, guitar festivals and a number of performing arts organizations. Some of these appearances include the Classical Guitar Society of Upstate NY, the Crane School of Music, the Day of Guitar Festival, the Great Lakes Guitar Society, Onondaga Community College, the Setnor School of Music, Skidmore College, the Tiffany Concert Series, Civic Morning Musicals, Syracuse Sound of Music and the Temple Society of Concord.
John enjoys collaborating in a variety of projects. He is commonly an accompanist and performs in several ensembles. These include guitar duos, ensembles and additional duos with violin, flute & mandolin. He often sits in as a session guitarist for various groups. He has recorded for Mel Bay Publications and is credited on the Don Miller Guitar Ensemble Series.
In addition to honing his skills as a performing artist, John is an award winning educator & entrepreneur. John is a teacher to a large number of students at the Music School of CNY. This school was envisioned by Ferrara offering many lesson programs to students of all ages. He is the director the Childbloom Guitar Program, a national program for elementary aged kids. John has received many accolades and honors with this program for his years of dedication in instructing the youth. He has served as an adjunct professor at Onondaga Community College. In his community he has been transforming lives for over 25 years with his coaching and mentoring. Many of his students have been accepted into top colleges and universities nationwide and have advanced to careers in music.
