The Lady and the Sultan

Ibrahim Aziz [bass viol - first picture; cello - second picture] and Dan Tidhar [harpsichord - third picture] will illustrate the competing claims of the two bowed instruments dramatised by the French writer Hubert le Blanc in colourful allegory in 1740. They will perform music by Vivaldi, Marais, Couperin and others.

The musicians will introduce themselves, their instruments and the music - no prior knowledge is necessary! Admission is cheaper if booked in advance [£14; £8], but admission will still be possible on the door [£16] if sufficient space is available.
