About this Event
Step into the luminous world of Anna Ancher at a relaxed, hands-on event inspired by her acclaimed work. Hosted at Dulwich Picture Gallery, this special knitting and crochet event in partnership with Craft Forward celebrates Anna Ancher: Painting Light—the first-ever UK exhibition of one of Denmark’s most pioneering artists.
A key figure among the Skagen Painters, Ancher captured everyday life in the remote fishing village of Skagen, often depicting sewers, knitters, painters, and woodworkers bathed in extraordinary light. Her work offers a rare and intimate perspective on creativity, labour, and domestic life.
Ahead of the workshop, you will have time to explore the exhibition and be inspired by the works. We will then host one of our classic Knit Clubs for Blankets for London, and will have books around contemporary Danish and Nordic knitwear design to inspire us further while we make our squares.
“Blankets for London” is the London chapter of Craft Forward’s seasonal project Blankets for the World, where we assemble blankets to donate to unhoused individuals in the UK and Europe.
All skill levels welcome and all materials provided. If you’re a knitter or a crocheter already, you’re also welcome to take your favourite knitting needles or crochet hook with you!
I want to participate in "Blankets for the World": our mailbox is now closed and we will start collecting squares again later this year.

Pictures will be taken during this session: please let us know if you'd rather not be photographed, we want to make sure everyone is comfortable.
