The Joyce McBride Stacy Starkweather Duo with Deszon Claiborne
Joyce Todd McBride, piano, is from Berkeley Ca, and has played music since the age of 5. Her musical background is very diverse, including serious dives into early music, gamelan, jazz and brazilian music. Joyce has just recorded an album of originals, featuring jazz musicians Erik Jekabson, Kasey Knudsen, Deszon Claiborne, and Gabe Porter. Joyce is very proud to be part of the rich community of creative musicians in the greater Bay Area. Joyce is a piano teacher in the East Bay, and is the director and arranger for Conspiracy of Venus vocal ensemble, and has made over 40 arrangements for that group.
Stacy Starkweather, bass, grew up in the Bay Area, and both Joyce and Stacy have been part of the extended musical family here since 1972. Stacy is known for touring with such bands as the Hieroglyphics Ensemble, The Jazz Mandolin Project and the Sun Ra Tribute Cosmic Krewe. He is currently a Special Educator/Psychology teacher at Benicia High School.
A native of the Bay Area, Deszon Claiborne began his musical career at the early age of ten. Virtually self taught in the beginning, he went on to study with world-renowned drummers such as Richard Peterson, Rick Quintinel (Chuck Brown school of Drumming), James Levi, Billy Cobham and Kenneth Nash , an experience which provided him with a strong foundation in jazz, rhythm & blues and world music. He has had the pleasure to perform or record with the following artists: Peter Apfelbaum, Don Cherry, Charles brown, Angela Bofill, Les McCann, Dr. Lonnie Smith, Robin Ford, Boz Scaggs, Greg Howe, Henry Butler, Giovani Hildalgo, Kai Eckhardt, John Handy, Taj Mahal, Donald Harrison, Rodney Franklin, and many others.

Lillian e Melodias do Brasil Celebrating our favorite melodies and soundscapes of Brazilian culture, we dive into sounds of bossa nova, samba, and choro with Laura Boytz on cello, Rebecca Hass on piano, Mark Fishman on percussion, and Lillian Yee on vocals, melodica and percussion. Join us for a sentimental musical experience playing arrangements of classic Brazilian composers as well as our own compositions.
