About the programme
The joy of film photography in the digital age is a nostalgic journey through the rich history of photography, where the allure of capturing moments on film retains its charm despite technological developments. The legendary Leica came into the picture with Oskar Barnack, whose pioneering work revolutionised 35mm photography. Iconic Leica film camera models, such as the Leica I, M3, and M6, have become synonymous with timeless quality. Showcasing historical images captured on these cameras, such as Nick Ut's harrowing "Napalm Girl", Steve McCurry's haunting "Afghan Girl," and Henri Cartier-Bresson’s "Behind Gare Saint-Lazare", highlight their enduring impact and emotional depth. These images, etched in history, demonstrate the profound storytelling power of film. The appeal of using an analogue camera today lies in its tactile process, the anticipation of developing film and the unique, irreproducible aesthetic, which provides a meaningful connection to the art's roots.
