Time for Tea! Grab a cuppa and enjoy the Journey of Tea.
To celebrate the International Tea Day, and to support our current exhibition Infamous: Opium, Silk, Tea & the Mission, Dr Fang Zong invites you to experience the Journey of Tea.
The journey will start from the origin of tea, and go through its routes from China to Europe, and discuss how tea became the second most consumed beverage in the world. It will share tea culture and customs of many nations of the world, through the world's first tea book "Classic of Tea" and postage stamps, ancient and contemporary artworks, historical museum objects, botanical specimens and illustrations, and British tea tips etc.
She will also give you a tour and interpretation of the tea-themed artifacts of this exhibition and answer your questions about them.
Please enjoy your tea at our historical and cultural tearoom.
£6 plus fee or pay what you can by donation.
Dr Fang Zong’s Biography:
Dr Fang Zong 宗芳 博士, a Biomedical Academic and a Museum Professional, a freelance Consultant and Curator of Chinese Culture, an Overseas Exhibition Coordinator of Shenzhen Art Museum, a member of Oriental Ceramic Society, a Member of the Education Working Group, Society for Anglo-Chinese Understanding.
Dr Zong holds a PhD in Medical Science from the Karolinska Institute, Sweden. She worked as researcher and tutor in Biomedicine and Public Health disciplines.
She has been studying museum practice, Chinese culture and art from many museums and universities worldwide. She has been working at the Manchester Museum for 10 years. As part of the team, she made a significant contribution to the development of the Lee Kai Hung Chinese Culture Gallery and, as part of the Manchester Museum hello future team, received the Special Achievement Award in the Making a Difference Awards for Social Responsibility, University of Manchester 2023.
She has published 6 articles and 38 blogposts on museum collections and Chinese culture. She has created Chinese Culture Corners for the Museum and delivered Collection Bites talks to the public.
