In the late 1970s, The Jerrabatgulla Boys were a force to be reckoned with in Canberra’s traditional music scene.Rising from the rubble of The Salt Bush Bandand comic-punkers The Gutz, the five-piece outfit turned its wrecking ball on the hallowed institution of Bluegrass. However it wasn’t all just wooden signs and French absurdist between-song patter. The two-prong attack of the legendary Bernie Nizynski on 5-string banjo and emerging giant-killer Dave O’Neill on fiddle and mandolin established The Jerrabatgulla Boys as the real deal.
And now – nearly half a century on – they’re back! Reconvening the original line-up (with Frank Batgulla’s son Troy subbing on bass), the magic is still there.
There’s a neat symmetry to this reunion show – the Monaro Folk Society was among the first to book The Jerrabatgulla Boys back in the day. Tickets $20 Full Price $15 MFS Members and Concessions - and can be booked at Trybooking - see Tickets link or cash at door
