The topic of the meeting is "Sketching Painterly"! Chris is a celebrated watercolorist and landscape architect, best known for his plein air artistry. Chris will demonstrate how to use sketching as the foundation for your paintings. Quick, expressive sketches will always help to inform your watercolor style. Chris will demonstrate the use of fountain pens to improve your watercolor style.
His “Seven Tips” on expressive sketches are:
1. Simplify and quickly interpret the subject
2. “Layering” the ink…Draw light until its right
3. Using ink, “commits” to the line, no erasing
4. Express the details, don’t state
5. Using a “Fude” nib pen for the darks
6. Loose, expressive lines create the energy in the drawing. Straight lines are boring!
7. Think as if you are painting with the pen and the watercolor wash comes easily!
You won't want to miss Chris' demonstration!
