About this Event
Public libraries across Canada are experiencing a rise in the frequency and complexity of safety and security incidents—challenging their long-held role as safe, welcoming, and inclusive spaces for all. In response, the Canadian Urban Libraries Council/Conseil des Bibliothèques Urbaines du Canada (CULC/CBUC) has developed the Public Library Safety & Security Toolkit: a comprehensive and evolving resource designed to support libraries in managing real-world incidents with confidence, compassion, and consistency.
This hybrid learning session will guide participants through the core concepts, strategies, and best practices contained in the Toolkit. Together, we will explore how libraries can improve incident prevention and response; strengthen employee safety and well-being; navigate patron expectations and legal considerations; collaborate with community partners; and contribute meaningfully to the ongoing cross-Canada Safety & Security Community of Practice.
Whether you are a frontline employee, a manager, or a library leader, this session offers practical guidance, peer insights, and actionable approaches you can take back to your local context.
