THE IN-BETWEEN PLACE FILM FESTIVALLairg Community Centre, Lairg - Saturday 1st March
This community film screening event will premier three new short films created last year as part of the Screen Arts training days, delivered by Poetic Film School, at Timespan, Lairg & District Learning Centre and Strathnaver Museum. The films are:
PLIGHTING THE ORD AN LUIRG
People have lived in the far north Highland village of Lairg for thousands of years. Bronze Age burial tombs are found up at nearby Ord Hill where a radio transmitter also stands with various antennas. PLIGHTING THE ORD AN LUIRG is indeed a transmission through time; a signal sent from past, present and future that reminds us of the fragility and wonder of humans being tethered to the land. Narration by by Caithness Bard and playwright George Gunn with music from Kildonan & Scott Buckley. Made in partnership with Lairg & District Learning Centre.
THE FARR OGHAM
Much has been said about the Picts, the indigenous people of Northern Scotland. Many questions and theories still exist about their lives, where they came from and especially - how did they disappear? The FARR OGHAM is a poetic muse about these very questions in a revelation of story and mythology. Narration by Caithness Bard and playwright George Gunn with music by Bing Satellites. Made in partnership with Strathnaver Museum.
TEND
District Nurses were a common sight in the villages, roads and straths in the far North of Scotland in years gone by. Ishbel Macrae lived for many years in Torrish and was known as the District nurse from Helmsdale. TEND is an intimate portrait of one person’s life to care for the sick and poorly and how her legacy inspires a community to nurture each other today. With music by Konstantin Trokay. Made in partnership with Timespan Museum and Arts Centre.
