About this Event
The ImprOpera Presents: Pagliacci
The imprOPERA (Improper Opera) is a unique opera-based variety show in which local artists from various disciplines are charged with telling the story of an opera through their unique point of view and artistry. Featuring interpretations from hip hop artists, movement artists, improv comedians, and more, Our mission is to reimagine an Opera through unexpected means.
Come see a retelling of Ruggero Leoncavallo's Pagliacci, a short Verismo opera based on a true story. The story is a play within a play about a Commedia dell'Arte troupe. Conio, playing Pagliaccio, is married to Nedda, who is secretly involved with Tonio. Before their performance, Conio discovers her infidelity, leading to the famous aria "Vesti la giubba" (Put on the Costume). During the show, overcome by rage and jealousy, Conio kills Nedda and Tonio in a tragic finale.
