ABOUT
Callen is a confident but screen-absorbed programmer and influencer whose partner, Claire, is expecting their first child. Overwhelmed by fear of failure, disconnection, and the looming weight of responsibility, Callen flees into a nearby cave after becoming obsessed with the imagery of the 2018 Thai children’s rescue.
There, he becomes trapped. In the darkness, a living, animate light teases and guides him, showing him visions that blur past and present—Claire’s pregnancy, echoes of the trapped children, and his own mortality. The cave becomes a womb-like realm where Callen is, by turns, the rescuer, the child, and the one in need of saving.
Drawing on echoes of Plato’s Allegory of the Cave, The Impossible Light reframes modern illusions: not shadows on stone walls, but the glowing screens of everyday life. To emerge, Callen must face his fears, surrender his digital distractions, and rediscover the raw, physical world—and the fragile beauty of human connection.
