Margaret Young, director. Four Performances 9/19 - 9/27
About this Event
The Importance of Being Earnest is a comedic play by Oscar Wilde that satirizes Victorian society's obsession with appearances and social conventions. The plot revolves around two young men, Jack Worthing and Algernon Moncrieff, who both create fictional alter egos (Ernest and Bunbury, respectively) to escape their social obligations and pursue their romantic interests, Gwendolen and Cecily. Through mistaken identities, humorous misunderstandings, and witty dialogue, the play ultimately reveals the absurdity of rigid social rules and the importance of sincerity and self-awareness.
