1. At check-in every guest receives either a lock or a key
2. Guests circulate, meet people, and find out whether their lock and key match
3. Subtle conversation cues appear throughout the night to keep things moving and the room warm

No hovering near the bar. No awkward silences. No standing on the outside of a circle hoping someone notices you.
