Electronic musician and producer Matthew Herbert performs a unique live show alongside the LCO, journeying into the origins of music: from its very beginnings to modern day electronics and sampling. Slowly and gradually accelerating, this unique live performance bases its percussion sound from the bones from a racehorse skeleton, with flutes made from its bones, alongside the traditional instruments of the London Contemporary Orchestra and samples of the horse’s life.
Layered with rhythms of instruments old and new which unite to a familiar sinfonietta style configuration, the music rises with the sampling of electronic loops, building to a crescendo, until all sound is replaced by a race horse: living, breathing, running. What results is a compelling physical performance, as well as a musical one.
