Author of The History of My Sexuality – a sensation on publication in Europe – discusses his sharp and questioning debut novel with critic Barry Pierce.
Set in Amsterdam, the history of Sofie’s sexuality begins with the loss of her virginity and ends right before she starts to visit the hospital where you can become ‘less of a girl and more of a boy’. Unknotting family relationships, sex and love, The History of My Sexuality is an intelligent and unconventional novel that speaks to our times.
Tobi Lakmaker writes columns for De Groene Amsterdammer and LINDA.meiden. He lives in Amsterdam and The History of My Sexuality is his first book.
Lakmaker will be in conversation with Barry Pierce, whose writes for The Big Issue, GQ, and i-D, among others.
