About this Event
Join WEDU PBS on Thursday, February 1, for an evening filled with uplifting Gospel Music and history at Beulah Baptist Institutional Church. Fred Hearns, Curator of Black History at the Tampa Bay History Center, will lead an inspiring conversation with individuals who have memories of legendary Gospel experiences and discuss its evolution over the years.
This free community event aims to celebrate the history of Gospel Music and acknowledge the contributions of radio announcers, promoters, and prominent Gospel Singers who played a pivotal role in establishing Tampa’s vibrant Gospel Community. The event will feature special performances by the Gospel Choir at the University of South Florida, Beulah Baptist Institutional Church Male Chorus, Alex Harris (founder of Arts for Teens Conservatory), and the Walton Academy for the Performing Arts.
Additionally, we will present a screening of the new four-hour PBS Documentary, , produced by Henry Louis Gates, Jr., premiering on February 12-13 at 9 p.m. on WEDU.
We look forward to seeing you there to celebrate the spirit of Gospel Music!
