Step inside the Peña-Peck House—once home to Governor Patrick Tonyn—and explore one of the most turbulent chapters of British St. Augustine. During the British Period (1763–1784), Tonyn served as the second governor of East Florida, and his term was rife with drama. Turmoil at home, his brother-in-law's criminal acts, infighting amongst his advisors and subordinates, and the American Revolution presented a series of tough obstacles.
Presented in the very house where Tonyn lived, this talk looks at Governor Tonyn and the petty problems that cursed his life and time in office, bringing political intrigue and personal conflict vividly to life within the walls that witnessed it firsthand.
About the Speaker: Nicole Diehm is the Head Librarian and Curator of the St. Augustine Historical Society. In this role she also manages rotating exhibits, and assists other institutions with their digital projects. She holds an M.A. in History, with a focus on Public History and Archiving, and an M.I.S. in Library and Information Science.
