Theatre: This is an original, abridged translation with dance and live popular music (our trilogy features original songs as well as selections from Led Zeppelin, Cream, the Kinks, The Band, Santana, The Stone Roses, Oasis, Howlin’ Wolfe, and The Reverend Gary Davis). This is an ancient Greek tragedy that tells the story of the Battle of Salamis in 480 B.C. from the perspective of the ancient Iranians who suffered a crushing defeat by the Athenians and their allies.
We invite everyone to stay for a dialogue with local veterans concerning their interpretation of the play. Our project is based on the work of VA psychiatrist Jonathan Shay who argues Greek tragedy was a form of cultural therapy of, for, and by veterans and an audience traumatized by war.
The Hercules Project is a Florida non-profit with a mission to serve veterans, first responders, and their dependents.
