OverviewThe Greenock Cut is a historic aqueduct, built 1827, which supplied water to the population and industries of Greenock.
Our walk takes us alongside the aqueduct enjoying stunning views over the Clyde estuary and hills beyond before dropping down to Shielhill Glen. The walk takes us to a very pretty boardwalk path following the river through woodland round the Leapmoor Loop. We can then stop at the Clyde Muirshiel Regional Park visitors centre to learn about the history of the Greenock Cut. Our return takes us over moorland dotted with reservoirs.
This is a very interesting and varied walk.
This walk has about 130m ascent and good paths throughout although they can be muddy following rain. The boardwalk round the Leapmoor Loop has no handrail and is uneven in parts.
