The Great Gobbler Gravel Grinder and Cross Country Challenge.The course is traffic free with the exception of race support vehicles and 80% gravel or natural terrain. All riders are on the same course each rider type will have advantages along different parts of the course. There are no tricks or surprises the course has been ridden numerous times on Gravel and various Mountain bikes with an equal amount of smiles. The proposed loop will be 12 miles and on a single lap you will have over 450' of elevation gain. (Course needs final approvals from land manager), The terrain is rolling and fun with both long steady climbs and descents. The course features 360 degree views that include NYC, several bridges and the New Jersey Highlands (Sandy Hook). The race/ride is rain or shine. For those that like to go fast this is an ideal venue as most of the climbs and decents are at near perfect inclination. There are a few tight turns and some loose gravel so be aware of both you and your bikes capabilities.
The format for each category - you will be able to start loops within the 6 hour time period aloud. Meaning if you come through the timing area at 5:59 minutes into your heat you will be able to start another loop. If you want to stop and eat or take a break or use the facilites no problem, If you arrive at 11AM Get on that course. The winners are based on most distance and best time. You may ride as long or as far as you choose there are no DNF (Did Not Finish) everyone gets credit for the time they put in. Teams are allowed 1 member on the course at a time (Relay).
Gravel Bike teams may consist of Gravel Bikes/Fitness/Adventure and Hybrid Bikes.
Cross Country Team may consist of Cross Country/Trail/All Mountain Bikes
EBikes are pedal assist only no clutch.
Adaptive bike category is for hand pedal trikes.
The family fun ride at 11AM will be a slow paced ride taking in some of the best sites in the park, it will be filled with information and sights you would not believe if you where not there.
There will be photographers on the course and we will be posting images on social media you are free to download and do what you please with the photos you enjoy.
We will have snack tables at the transition area with water, various hydration drinks and snacks. We will do our best to provide a good selection but if you particular tastes you are free to bring your own nutirtion and it can be left at the rider transition area.
All proceeds from event will go to two amazing organizations New York City Mountain Bike Association and Freshkills Park Alliance,
Every participant will receive snacks, hydration and for those of a age your first beer on us.
The location of the parking lot is 350 Wild Ave, Staten Island NY 10314, Car pooling is recommended when feasible.
