About this Event
Wine should evoke pleasure straight from the bottle: taste first and then further indulge with an incredible story of how it came to be. Often some of the finest cuvees are more than a labour of love and come from extreme regions or places where the desire and skill of the winemaker are habitually tested.
Whether this be from thin and sandy soils on the side of a volcano where the sparse fruit grown under vine can be measured by the thimble full, or a harvest where rainfall threatens mildew or rot, the grape, the harvest and the winemaker exist in symbiosis – we will delve deep into stories of winemakers who are exposed to the elements and produce extraordinary wines.
We might compare the dry extremity of Douro Superior with its low level of precipitation to the snowcapped mountains of Lebanon, or consider the volcanic effect of soils on the slopes of Etna. Magical wines from extreme climates!
Our shop tastings start at 7.30pm and run for approximately one-and-a-half to two hours. We will taste 6-8 wines on a theme, and bread, cheese and charcuterie is provided to match with the wines. Due to the communal nature of the tasting, we are unable to cater for dietary requirements.
