About this Event
One year ago, the doors to the Gothic Library were opened. Since then, listeners have been transported into the literary worlds of fantasy, horror, and adventure. We end our first season of storytelling magic with a return to the dark side of the human imagination with three tales of terror.
The Stories:
The Monkey's Paw by W.W. Jacobs
Wishes come at a horrific cost, as an older couple soon realizes after acquiring a strange, enchanted piece of taxidermy. Hoping to undo their son's death, they reap unendurable terrors instead. This seminal classic by Jacobs has been adapted countless times in various mediums, a warning to those who dare to wish.
The Body Snatcher by Robert Louis Stevenson
When fortune fails, aspiring medical students Fettes and Macfarlane turn to rob graves for their wicked mentor. But when a shortage of corpses threatens their work, their deeds turn darker. Inspired by the real-life crimes of Burke and Hare, this classic short story by Jekyll and Hyde scribe Robert Louis Stevenson continues to influence writers with its sense of atmosphere, dread, and twisted ending.
Dracula by Bram Stoker
The sailing ship Demeter's final voyage is chronicled in gruesome detail as the crew helplessly falls prey to its shape-shifting, blood-thirsty cargo. Literature's ultimate villain returns to The Gothic Library in this terrifying chapter from Bram Stoker's horror epic.
