About this Event
I feel privileged to be able to tell James Higson’s story in Haigh Hall, a place that James loved and where he spent many years of his life as a loyal and much-loved employee of more than one generation of the Crawford family.
James Higson came from a respected family of Church Bell Ringers at St Katherines Church Blackrod. He enlisted in The Queens Royal Regiment and over 21 years he fought bravely in many major campaigns over two continents with his loyal wife Elizabeth by his side.
After retiring from the army James found employment, first as a gamekeeper and then as a gatekeeper at Haigh Hall. Sadly, tragedy would befall the family changing his and his wife Elizabeth’s lives forever.
This grey-eyed, mild mannered man’s life was one of bravery, love, loyalty and tragedy. It is a story you will find fascinating, very moving and a great snapshot of history.
The talk will be held in the Haigh Community Room which is upstairs above the Courtyard.
Car park charges will apply.
