The Garden of Gethsemane Experience is a special event by Abiding In The Vine Ministries hosted at Jeanie's house on Thursday of Holy Week, April 2nd, 2026! This will be a unique opportunity to deepen our Lenten experience and to practice abiding in Christ by entering into the Garden of Gethsemane story ourselves and remaining awake with Jesus to "watch and pray".If you are interested, please RSVP so that we can have a head-count by the deadline of Friday, March 27th.
Here is an outline of the event schedule:
Arrivals will be from 6pm-7pm so that the event can start the opening introductions and instructions at 7pm followed by an opening prayer and the singing a prayer/song/Psalm as we light prayer candles and offer up incense.
At sundown (7:48pm) we are going to be sharing a meal prepared by Jeanie as we meditatively read through the Gospel accounts of the Last Supper. Afterwards, we are going to sing an adaptation of a Hallel Psalm that Jesus and His disciples would have sung after the dinner and before heading to the Mount of Olives.
At 10pm, we are going to be following the Gospel accounts of Jesus praying in the Garden of Gethsemane to spend extended time ourselves in meditative prayer. These prayer times will be interrupted by Jesus waking up His disciples and returning to prayer.
The last time Jesus wakes us up will be at 1am, and the event will conclude with His betrayal and arrest.
Throughout the evening, you can also expect to hear transportive musical soundscapes and to see beautiful icons visually depicting the three settings of The Last Supper, The Garden of Gethsemane, and Jesus' Betrayal and Arrest to guide us through the event by helping us connect more deeply with the story and to meditate on it through "theology written in images and color".
