About this Event
Local sports clubs hold a special place in our communities. They’re spaces for movement, laughter, and growth – where children and adults alike build skills, form lifelong friendships, and create lasting memories. We take our kids and their friends to games, we shout and encourage – sports clubs are amazing places, bringing us together: as players, parents, coaches, and supporters, all united by a shared love of sport and rooted in community.
But these vital spaces are under increasing pressure.
Rising rainfall and flooding are forcing clubs to cancel matches, cope with waterlogged pitches, and manage growing maintenance costs. Many are now facing the challenge of adapting their facilities to a changing climate – or risk losing them altogether.
So what can we do?
Join us for an inspiring and informative evening where you’ll hear directly from local sports club representatives. They’ll share first-hand experiences of dealing with flooding, unpredictable weather, and repeated disruption – and the real impact this is having on grassroots sport.
You’ll hear how clubs are responding; their challenges, their solutions, and the lessons they’ve learned along the way. There'll be a chance to ask questions and discuss simple ideas so you can leave with genuine, practical advice and information.
Speakers include:
- Lynsey Barraclough, Harrogate Town Community Foundation CIO
- Ged Maloney, Knaresborough Town Football Club
*Additional speakers to be announced shortly
